Oscar award owner

Does the oscar winner own the statuette ? Since 1950,the statuette's have been legally encumbered by the requirement that neither winner's nor their heirs may sell the statuett's withouts first offering to sell them back to the academy for Dollar 1 . If a winner refuses to agree to this stipulation, the academy keep's the statuette.
